On behalf of our client, Talents Nexus is seeking an experienced and skilled Deputy Orthopedic Spine Surgery professional for a leading teaching hospital in Basra. This role combines advanced clinical practice in complex spine surgery with supportive leadership responsibilities for the Orthopedic Spine Surgery service. The Deputy will work closely with the Head of Orthopedics to ensure high-quality surgical outcomes, supervise junior doctors, and contribute to the continuous development of spine care services in a multicultural environment.

Requirements 

Key Responsibilities



Clinical & Surgical Practice


  • Perform advanced spine surgical procedures, including trauma, degenerative conditions, deformity correction, and minimally invasive techniques.

  • Provide expert consultation in pre-operative and post-operative management of spine patients.

  • Ensure compliance with international standards for patient safety and surgical quality.


Departmental Support & Leadership


  • Act as second-in-command within the Orthopedic Spine Surgery service.

  • Support the Head of Orthopedics in planning and coordinating surgical schedules and departmental operations.

  • Step in as acting lead when required.


Education & Mentorship


  • Mentor junior surgeons, residents, and fellows in spine surgery techniques.

  • Conduct case reviews, academic meetings, and training workshops.

  • Encourage research, publications, and participation in professional associations.


Quality & Compliance


  • Participate in audits, quality assurance programs, and accreditation processes.

  • Maintain detailed surgical records and contribute to outcome monitoring.

  • Uphold hospital policies on infection control and patient safety.


Qualifications



Education & Experience


  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with specialization in Orthopedic Surgery.

  • Fellowship or sub-specialization in Spine Surgery (EuroSpine, AO Spine, or equivalent).

  • 7–15 years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years focused on spine surgery.

  • Prior experience in a deputy or senior consultant role is an advantage.


Skills & Competencies


  • Expertise in advanced spine surgery techniques, both open and minimally invasive.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to adapt to multicultural and resource-variable environments.


Preferred


  • Membership in international spine or orthopedic associations (e.g., EuroSpine, AO Spine, NASS).

  • Previous experience in teaching hospitals or international assignments.
